Why is this a “Mission” and not a parish?

When there is a need for a new Catholic parish or Community, the bishop (or archbishop) assigns a new parish mission to be planted from an existing parish.  In this case, St. Catherine of Siena is sponsoring the new parish mission.  Once the mission has established a community and church facilities and is stable, the mission (at the discretion and direction of the bishop) is usually then changed to parish status.  By virtue of the community being a mission, the priest in charge is called the administrator, and upon being named a parish, the administrator is then a pastor.

Can I contribute to the Mission?

You may send checks to St. Clare of Assisi with “Acworth Mission” in the memo section and these will be credited to our account.  Any donations made this way will be reflected on your tax letter from St. Clare of Assisi.
