St. Clare of Assisi Parish was formally established by decree of Archbishop Wilton Gregory on November 20, 2014 in Acworth, GA under the guidance and spiritual leadership of Fr. Mark Starr. As a growing community of believers in the Acworth area, there were many people who were looking for a Catholic church closer to home. After many petitions and letters were sent to the Bishop and after much prayer, our new Parish was born.
Our first Sunday Masses were celebrated in the auditorium of North Cobb High School on September 14, 2014. In January 2015, we began celebrating Saturday Vigil Masses at St. Theresa Episcopal Church on Mars Hill Road, Acworth, GA. In June, 2016 the North Cobb auditorium closed for renovation, and after a parish novena to St. Anthony we were blessed with a new home for our Sunday Masses at Barber Middle School.
In December, 2014 the Archdiocese of Atlanta purchased 46 acres of land with a house on Cedarcrest Road for the future needs of St. Clare of Assisi where we anticipate construction of our future church and facilities. The current residence serves as a rectory. The property address is 6301 Cedarcrest Road, Acworth, GA.
St. Clare of Assisi is a new parish where our history is just beginning. Come join us and help us make history together.
