He or she lays out the vestments and anything else needed for the celebration, such as cruets, chalices, ciboria, linens, oils, processional crosses, and candles. With deep love and reverence for the Holy Eucharist, we launder and care for the linens used during the celebration of Holy Mass.

The Sacristan Ministry has been active since the very first Mass at St. Clare of Assisi. We started with just a few sacristans, and while we have grown in numbers, there is always room for more. Our responsibilities are to set up for Mass and clean up afterwards.

We prepare the altar, the credence table, and the tabernacle; and have a checklist to make sure we cover all the details.

  1. Once the sanctuary is ready, we put the hosts out in the narthex and prepare the gifts for the offertory.
  2. We verify that the lectors and extra-ordinary ministers are present, and if not we find a substitute.
  3. We invite 2 or more people to bring the offertory gifts to the altar.
  4. Very often parishioners will approach us with questions or need assistance and we help the best we can.
  5. Once Mass has begun, we remain available to help with any last minute details if needed.
  6. After Mass we either do a reset for the next Mass or put everything away in the Sacristy.

The thing I like best about this service opportunity is that we get to interact with so many wonderful people.

God Bless,
Mary Theresa Zoellner

Linen Guild

We have lovingly given ourselves the name of “THE LINEN GENIES” and care for the sacred linens on a rotating schedule. These special linens contain the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ and are therefore handled and laundered in a reverent manner.

The Corporals, Purificators, and Lavabo towels used during Holy Mass will need to be cleaned every 2 weeks. The soiled linens will be placed in a plastic bag and left in the Sacristy. They should be picked up on Monday and returned on Thursday. Altar Scarves and Altar Server Albs will need cleaning much less frequently, maybe 4 times a year, but will be left to an as needed basis.

Detailed instructions can be found in the Altar Linen Care Procedure
