Our Apostolate of the Month is St. Vincent de Paul

We are excited to announce that the St. Vincent de Paul Society has been selected as our Parish Apostolate of the Month! This dedicated ministry plays a vital role in supporting our community members in need, providing compassionate care and practical assistance to those facing difficult times.

About the St. Vincent de Paul Society

The St. Vincent de Paul Society offers support and hope to individuals and families experiencing financial hardships, homelessness, and other challenges. Through various programs, including a food pantry, thrift store, and financial assistance services, this group ensures those in need receive the necessary resources and support to improve their lives.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to get involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society:

  • Food Pantry: Volunteers stock shelves and prepare food bags for delivery.
  • Caseworkers: Trained volunteers meet with individuals to assess needs and authorize financial assistance.
  • Thrift Store: Volunteers help sort items, price merchandise, and serve customers at the Kennesaw location.
  • Pick-Up Services: Volunteers pick up and deliver items such as food and furniture.
  • Help Line: Volunteers manage incoming messages and make initial assessments.

In May 2024, St. Clare’s St. Vincent de Paul Society trained 18 new Vincentians, increasing our active volunteer count to 40. We always welcome more volunteers to join our efforts, particularly at the Kennesaw Thrift Store, where proceeds directly benefit our community.

Community Impact

In 2022, the St. Vincent de Paul Society established a new Food Pantry dedicated to Jim Laskowski, a devoted volunteer. Regular donations to this pantry have been vital in supporting those in need. Additionally, contributions from the monthly second collection at Mass and the upcoming annual Food Drive in August further our mission.

Get Involved

If you want to help but have limited time, consider donating food to the donation bin, supporting the second collection, or participating in special initiatives like the annual Thanksgiving food baskets. For more information on how to get involved, please contact Mike Hittle at svdpclare@gmail.com.

Did You Know?

The St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in downtown Kennesaw is one of nine SVDP stores in Georgia. They rely on donations and provide items at a discount or free to those in crisis. Proceeds are used to offer financial assistance to community members. Donations are accepted Monday-Saturday, 10am-2pm, and include clothing, furniture, dishes, shoes, toys, and more.

Meet Our Volunteers

One of the most inspiring aspects of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is the dedication of its volunteers. This month, we are proud to spotlight Bear Bryan, whose commitment and compassion have made a significant impact on the ministry. Bear has been with our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society for over 8 years, offering unwavering support and care to those in need. Stay tuned for more about Bear’s story in our upcoming bulletins.

We hope you will join us in celebrating and supporting the St. Vincent de Paul Society this month. Your prayers, participation, and support help make our parish a place of comfort and community for all.

Check out the bulletin this month for a weekly spotlight of SVdP!
